Homemade Walnut Baklava
Buttery walnut baklava made at home with ready-made baklava sheets and soaked in syrup.
Ingredients
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 20 yufka (thin dough sheets)
- 250 g butter
- 2 cups walnuts
Method
- Boil the sugar and water for 10 minutes, add the lemon juice, boil for 2 more minutes and cool completely.
- Melt the butter and grind the walnuts coarsely. Heat the oven to 180°C.
- Butter a tray; layer half the sheets, brushing each with butter, then spread the walnuts.
- Layer the rest of the sheets the same way, cut into diamonds with a sharp knife and pour the remaining butter over.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden; pour the cold syrup over the hot baklava and let it rest for a few hours.
